Verdict day: five earnings windows close as chip stocks wobble

Friday closed the week on a split verdict. The semiconductor complex was sold hard — SOXX −3.20%, SMH −3.47%, AMAT −4.29%, and Nvidia −4.57% to 217.55 in its second daylight session after the print — while software barely gave back any of Thursday's biggest software day of the year, IGV easing just −0.74%. Five of six hyperscalers rose into that selling, Amazon +3.97% at the front.

Daily Pulse — Gold's Friday Break Hangs Over August's Final Session

Friday closed the week with a cautious risk-off tone across most asset classes — and today's session closes August. Gold fell more than three percent — a sharp single-session move — while long-dated US Treasuries slipped 0.30% and Bitcoin was nearly unchanged. The dollar strengthened, with the UUP proxy rising 0.57%, reinforcing that the gold decline was driven by dollar demand rather than a flight to safety broadly.
